Hi friends! We’re Kristi and Mary—a mother/daughter team from a small town in North Georgia—and we’re so glad you’re here.
If you’ve followed along with Mulch and Paint, thank you for sticking with us. That blog began as Kristi’s creative outlet, a place to share home décor projects, holiday magic, DIYs, and plenty of family stories. As life has changed, so has the vision. Together, we’re rebranding as A Young Tradition—a space where creativity, celebration, and heartfelt traditions take center stage.
Who We Are
Kristi is a full-time Realtor®, wife to Donnie, mom to Dylan, Mary & Trevor, and “Krispy” to granddaughter Evie. Kristi has also been blessed with amazing additions to her family, daughter-in-law, Kaytlen, and son-in-law, Daniel. She’s a crafter, thrifter, planner, proud list-maker, and devoted Christmas enthusiast (ten trees and counting!). She lives in a perfectly imperfect 1940s Federal brick home, across the street from the family’s first house, “The Yellow House.” Her days are filled with color, classic style, projects and a love for her family that motivates her to make life more joyful and meaningful.
Mary works as an event coordinator/social media manager for the town she grew up in. She’s a proud daughter, wife, cat mom to Sir Meowcolm and Slug, and lover of old homes, thrift stores, and “bougie on a budget” finds. She’s passionate about creating spaces that feel like home, planning parties and traditions that people look forward to, and sharing inspiration that feels real, not rushed.
What A Young Tradition Is All About
A Young Tradition is just an extension of who we are as a family. We love holidays and the way a single tradition, big or small, can turn into a memory that lasts for years. We love hosting and making people feel welcome, even if it’s just around our own kitchen tables. We love thrifting and finding beauty in things that have a little history, a quirk, or a story to tell.
You’ll see plenty of crafts, decorating, and party ideas here, but more than that, we want this space to feel like sitting down with friends—sharing recipes, swapping ideas, and encouraging each other to celebrate everyday life. Some projects will be simple, some might be over the top, but all of them come from the same place: a love of family, tradition, and creating joy right where you are.

This blog is more than a creative outlet for us. It’s a promise to honor the people and moments that matter, and a way to carve out time for one another even as life gets busy. Our hope is that you’ll feel like you’ve just met your new best friends and your new favorite comfort duo.
