Breakfast Room Refresh~One Room Challenge Fall 2021~~Week 3

Hello hello!

It's week 3 of the Fall 2021 One Room Challenge and I'm making progress on our Breakfast Room Makeover!

First, the banquette came in and Donnie and I assembled it.

I decided to take my Memaw's china cabinet and paint it white. I must first say that painting furniture is NOT my calling! I am a huge fan of Confessions of a Serial DIYer and DoDodson Designs and love seeing the beautiful pieces of furniture that they transform...but watching and doing are two separate things. Since this was my Memaw's cabinet, I tried very hard to take my time, do everything right and also allow the paint to cure longer to ensure a good finished coat.

Remember the dark cabinet that was sitting in the corner all by herself? She's pretty, but we're about to make her fabulous!

I first moved the piece of furniture into it's new space, removed the glass, decorating wood accents in the doors, pulls and shelves.

I then cleaned the piece with soap and water. After that, I also cleaned it with Dixie Belle's White Lighting.

This piece has extremely dark stain that I am going to paint white...so I covered the entire piece with Dixie Belle's BOSS before painting. I got almost two coats of BOSS on every piece.

I then applied several top coats of a custom blend paint color I had to match my mantle in the Living Room. I chose a semi-gloss trim paint and purchased a quart. I obviously forgot to take a photo of the cabinet once it was painted.

Kaytlen chose this colorful peel and stick wallpaper from Amazon to place on the inside wall of the cabinet.

I was super scared of applying this wallpaper and put it off for a few days. Once I started hanging it, I was so simple. The back of the wallpaper already has grids on the back to for cutting straight lines and measuring. Hanging the wallpaper is very forgiving and you can peel any mistakes up and redo them.

I used a straight edge razor to even up the corners.

The knobs and pulls came from Amazon and were very affordable.

We added the shelves and glass back but decided to leave off the decorative wood accent trim that went behind the glass doors.

What a transformation! Instead of this dark piece alone in the corner, the new and improved china cabinet is a complete show stopper and lightens up the space.

During my china cabinet makeover, the curtains arrived! I also dropped by Lowe's and had the wood window shades cut to size and hung them. Here's a sneak peek of those! I am still debating raising the curtain rods up slightly--but to do this will take some time and paint touch ups. I am going to continue to focus on the other stuff and possibly raise those rods if I have time later.

I'm feeling good about all of the progress that we've made! Next week I will be tackling the built-in shelving, giving an update on the other items I've ordered and hopefully showing how I remade a vase for a centerpiece on the table. Let's see if I can get all of this done!
