Christmas Home Tour 2018 Part 1

Hello friends!

I so love this time of year, don’t you?  Christmas decorations are everywhere, Christmas music is playing, food (especially sweets) flow non-stop and there are many opportunities to relax and enjoy the company of friends and family.  At our home, the season begins the first weekend in December when the city’s annual Christmas parade goes down my street.  I strive to have all of my decorations up before the parade date.  I usually cook lunch and invite my family to eat and enjoy watching the parade.  This year, the decorations weren’t all up by my deadline and I’ve still been working to get everything together.  Do you have years like that?  One holiday season I’ve got it all together with decorations, gifts, cooking, etc and then some years I’m scrambling to get presents wrapped on Christmas Eve.  For me, this year is a little of both.

Most of the decorating is done by me with help from Mary.  The decorations are kept in our basement and are set up in a way that no other human besides me can figure out-so it’s easier for me to just go get them myself than to give instructions to someone else.  Up the stairs.  Down the stairs.  Up the stairs.  Hear a loud, “meow” and realize I’ve locked the cat in the basement.  Down the stairs.  I cannot tell you how many plastic storage boxes I currently own.  A bunch.  I have issues…

Christmas Home Tour 2018 Part 1:  Master Bedroom & Kitchen

To begin my 2018 Christmas Home Tour I wanted to share my favorite tree, my master bedroom tree.  The tree is flocked and features rose gold ornaments and poinsettias.

I used a lot of fillers from the Dollar Tree, such as the white glittery snowflakes, doves and silver glittered Christmas tree ornaments.  There are three different ribbons used that have cream, gold and rose gold.  All of the ribbon was bought at Hobby Lobby.

Since this is “my” tree, I customized it to what I love the most…my family.  I took miscellaneous old picture frames, painted them creamy white and sprayed a light coat of glitter paint over them to use as ornaments.  On some of them, I hot glued a silver ribbon bow and a star to the top.  I used different family photos that had special memories and developed them in black and white to place inside the frames.  They are scattered throughout the tree.  The photo above of me and Mary was taken after one of her dance recitals.

The top of the tree is simply a mix of rose gold poinsettias, ribbon and rose gold berry sprays.

I found this great rose gold bucket at Tuesday Morning and sat it under the tree filled with florals and ornaments.  I forgot to take the price tag off before photographing….do you see it?  Oops!

Below is a picture from our wedding.  Donnie and I were married the week before Christmas 1990 and this is a photo taken during the reception.  Happy Anniversary, honey!

Let’s do a 180 and visit my kitchen decorated for Christmas…

My kitchen has an awkward layout so it’s very difficult to photograph.  Surprisingly, when we bought the home, the previous owners had a full table in the middle of the room.  I don’t see how they functioned that way because it is a small space.  There are cabinets galore so that gives me plenty of room to hoard kitchen stuff and hide them inside.

I use a small, flocked pencil tree in the kitchen and place it beside the door leading to our dining room.  The tree’s ornaments are mainly gingerbread, cookie cutters and other kitchen-themed items.

The lace ribbon that I used on top was so lovely and old-fashioned.  I took this ribbon and cut it thinner to run down the length of the tree in several areas.  The red ribbon mimics the lace with a lace-like stencil on it.  I cut the red ribbon and gathered the ends together with wire to make a one-loop filler to place throughout the tree.

The top of the tree is a handmade stuffed gingerbread man that I bought at a yard sale.  I added the bows, cinnamon sticks and red berries to add height and color.

Because of the bold red on my kitchen walls, I used a more neutral color scheme for the holiday decor.  I stuck mainly to white, green, silver and red this year.
